By Plane
Plane is the easiest way to reach Pisa if coming from abroad. The Galileo Galilei International Airport of Pisa (Galileo Galilei Airport, PSA) is near the city centre. The airport performs daily flights to London, Paris, Bruxelles and other major European cities, as well as to Rome, Milan, and other Italian cities.
Florence Airport is the next closest airport to the city of Pisa; it also has numerous connections to Italian, European and international cities. It is linked to the central train station (Santa Maria Novella) of Florence by shuttle buses and by train to Pisa. These trains leave approximately every twenty minutes. It takes about an hour to travel from Florence to Pisa.
Other possible airports that may be convenient are those of Genoa and Rome.
The Scuola Normale can be reached from Pisa Airport using city buses: take the LAM rossa (red) bus, which directly connects the airport with the city centre. The “via Fermi” stop is the nearest to the Scuola Normale.
You can also take a taxi: the trip from the airport to the Scuola Normale costs about 10€.
By Train
The main station is Pisa Centrale, located in the city centre about 1 km from the Scuola Normale.
Pisa is connected with all main European cities by train through Milan, Venice, Bologna, Florence, Turin, Genoa or Rome.
For tickets see TrenItalia web-site.
Please note:
- there is an additional charge on the Intercity and Eurostar trains;
- train tickets must be automatically date validated before you board the train, at the yellow boxes located in the main terminals of all Italian train stations.
The Scuola Normale can be reached by bus from the train station, or by taxi (for about 5€). You can also walk from the station in about 20 minutes.
By car
Take note that Piazza dei Cavalieri is in the pedestrian zone and cannot be reached by car without a special permit.
